What is fork bomb?

💬Answer

A denial-of-service attack where a process continually spawns new copies of itself recursively until the system runs out of PID slots.

  • Classic Bash syntax: :(){ :|:& };:
  • Prevention: Edit /etc/security/limits.conf to set maximum process limits (nproc) for non-root users:
    *   hard    nproc   2048
